A few brothers took the opportunity to be a part of the 50th anniversary commemoration of the Selma voting rights movement in Selma, AL on March 7th and 8th. On Saturday, President Barack Obama spoke in front of a crowd comprised of over 100,000 individuals. Sunday included a speech from Rev. Al Sharpton and a concert put on by BET and Centric. Performers included: BeBe Winans, Doug E. Fresh, Flavor Flav and Vanilla Ice. Brother Khalil Johnson [OK, Fall '13] was able to shake hands with our General President, Bro. Mark S. Tillman, and stand beside him during an interview with the Steve Harvey Show. All brothers were delighted to have been granted the opportunity to physically walk across the bridge that has such a rich background.
** War Eagle Girls and Plainsmen!
OK was able to keep the tradition going by getting another member to join WEGP! Pictured above to the right is our new plainsmen Cody Bass [OK, Fall 14'], and to the left is our previous plainsmen Jeremy Wiley [OK, Spring 12'].
** Alpha Week
The beginning of march was a good one for the chapter. We were able to put on a successful Alpha week and continue to show why OK is on top. We started off the week with a Sunday morning church service at White Street, leading into a forum about practicing safe sex on campus the next day, and also had help from our good friend Aubie during our Stroll Like An Alpha competition. We ended our Alpha week with a party on Friday at club End Zone.
Please keep the chapter in your prayers as we travel Orlando Florida for Regionals on March 19th - March 22nd. We will be competing in the oratorical competition with brother Ben Baker and also the scholars bowl competition. If you live in the area please contact a brother to hang out with the chapter while we are down there.
